Coronavirus and the Church

To the POSCOC Church family and friends:

As many of you are aware, the world is currently in a crisis state with an unprecedented situation. COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus Disease 2019, or, simply, Coronavirus, has been declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). This virus is highly contagious, and can be very dangerous to certain persons. As of this post, our nation of Trinidad & Tobago currently has 5 positive cases of persons afflicted with Coronavirus, with the chances of this number exponentially increasing. The Government has put measures in place to limit the spread of this viral disease as much as possible, including the suspension of schools, social gatherings, and the barring of foreign nationals from entering the country for a period of time.
After much prayer and discussion among the church leadership, and on the advice of those in the medical profession, the following decisions were made:
  1. With immediate effect, all meetings of the Church, including Midweek and Sunday services are suspended indefinitely. This applies to North as well as our Satellite Churches in Central, South and Tobago. The suspension of services will also apply to other gatherings such as Teens Devotionals, Campus Devotionals, Luncheons, etc.
  2. We will be making arrangements to broadcast our main services via a YouTube (or similar) link. The information for connecting to the link will be sent to Family Group leaders beforehand.
  3. It is important that Family Group leaders ensure that ALL members of our Family Groups remain connected during this time. Particular attention should be paid to those who may not have the means or know how to connect via social media. We must be excellent shepherds of the flock during this time ( 1 Peter 5:2). Where possible, arrangements can be made to visit or call such persons.
  4. At all times, care must be taken to observe the established protocols for protection from the Coronavirus. This is especially important for those who are sick or elderly.
  5. Special arrangements are to be put in place for our weekly offering, including the online giving of the offering. Please do not omit this important aspect of our Christian life ( 2 Corinthians 9:7). Details of the arrangements for giving would be provided in a separate announcement.
  6. We can continue to study the Bible with friends and introduce them to God’s Word. They can also be invited to join the streaming services. Again, care must be taken regarding personal contact and protocols should be observed. Innovative use can be made of technology and social media in studying with others.
Let us continue to pray for amazing fruit and baptisms, even during this time. We serve and incredibly amazing God, for Whom nothing is impossible (Luke 18:27).

Subsequent information will be posted to this page as it becomes available.
